1/13/11 LETTER FROM JO CHAMBLEE
The following is the text of an email by Jo Chamblee (1/13/11):
Certainly more publicity is good. We really want the Blount County folks to attend because they will be on the front lines with foster, s/n, TNR and all the other things that will make NK work. NK will be a big job and we’ll need lots of volunteers to make it happen.
We have just seen the kill rate at Blount AC go down 17.8% for 2010. Crossing Paths launched “Fix Your Mama!”, a free spay + rabies program in the last 6 mos of the year The only requirement for FYM is that the owner be a resident of Blount County. I know that pundits say that free doesn’t work but trust me, free works. In this economy, free works. We’re running FYM entirely on donations while we wait for grants. There is no overhead associated with the program—every penny donated goes to pay vet bills.
If we can make NK work in Blount County it would the first step for a NK Alabama. Some of the Blount County officials are listening and would like to see it happen. A good turnout at the March 31st meeting would show them that this is important to their voters.
We want to eventually build a NK shelter separate from animal control---all the animals are in foster homes now and a building would help in so many ways.
If anyone wants to make a donation they can be made by credit card or check to Alabama Spay/Neuter, 956-0012 (be sure and mention Blount County “Fix Your Mama!”) or checks can be mailed to Alabama Spay/Neuter or to Crossing Paths, “Fix Your Mama!”, PO Box 304, Locust Fork, AL 35097.
FYM is working so well in Blount County and we would like to see it adopted in other counties as well. If you’d like more info on how FYM works, email me at joce@charter.net and I’ll be happy to tell you about it.
